Springtime heralds the rebirth of floral beauty and the first flowers to bloom are notably crocus and hyacinth. March 7th is designated as World Hyacinth Day. The classic garden variety Dutch Hyacinth has mythologic ties to a handsome Greek prince, who’s spilt blood was said to have been the origin of the flower. The smaller sized grape hyacinth, also known as muscari, looks like a cone shaped miniature upside down bunch of grapes or a cluster of little bells. A small sprig makes a particularly nice boutonniere along with fern or silver dollar eucalyptus.
